'DJ Mike Nyce'
Name:
Mike Nyce
Teaching for How Long:
Classroom teaching for 15 years
Favorite Artist:
That's a very difficult question for a music lover who appreciates all genres of music. If I had to just pick someone I would say Stevie Wonder.
Music Genre(s):
I wouldn't say I specialize in any one genre. Spinning for 20+ years has allowed me to specialize in many genres.
Gear Specialization:
I pride myself in being versatile in the gear I use. I own 1200s, CDJs, and controllers. My preference would be 1200s and my Rane 62 mixer.
Advice for Students:
Build a foundation on the fundamentals so that you can take your DJing where you want it to go
Favorite Venues:
In Philly some of my favorite places to spin are Voyeur, Silk City, Johnny Brenda's mainly because their systems bump while remaining clean sounding.
Accolades:
Bachelor of Science in elementary education. Classroom teacher for 15+ years. Palmer Social Club Resident 1995-2003, Tastytreats Resident DJ with Questlove 2003-2013, toured with Biz Markie, Slick Rick, & Doug E. Fresh, Jill Scott Official Grammy party, BET Grammy Party, Prince Private Afterparty (3 nights), currently spinning regularly in nightclubs in the tri-state area and beyond.

What got you interested in DJ'ing?

Growing up and having access to hearing DJs like Red Alert, Chuck Chillout, Bobbito & Stretch Armstrong, Marley Marl and countless others on the radio playing good current music combined with hearing the technical skills of DJs like Scratch, Jazzy Jeff, Cash Money etc. I knew that DJin was what I wanted to do with my life.
