Last Weekend, Jazzy Jeff, Cosmo Baker, Dirty Digits and More Had The Summer In Full Effect

It seemed like everywhere you looked online last weekend, our Scratch friends and fam had the summer on tilt. In case you missed it, here’s what we got into this month:

Our Lead Instructor at our New York City school, Dirty Digits won the Cut2Cut DJ competition held over the weekend at Rock and Soul pro audio in Manhattan. Grandmaster Flash was a special guest and spoke with the crowd about the current state of DJ’ing and how it relates to the culture. Congrats to Dirty Digits for taking the NYC title!

In Philly, our own Cosmo Baker took part in The Do-Over, a legendary traveling party series originally from LA. The Do-Over is known for it surprise performances from special guests, and they didn’t disappoint. Cosmo brought out DJ Jazzy Jeff, who is basically the de facto architect of the summertime soundtrack, and The Philly Freezer himself, Roc-a-Fella’s Freeway.

CHI instructor Boi Jeanius played Volleywood, a beach party with sets from A-Trak and Brenmar. A-Trak showed his support for DJ’s Are Not Jukeboxes, a organization with a focus on the culture started by DJ Scend, also an instructor at our Chicago facility.

Our own Jaycee from Atlanta played Bastid’s BBQ, an annual outdoor event held in Toronto by Skratch Bastid.

On Friday, Scratch DJ Academy and Samsung threw an event at Samsung’s 837 space in Manhattan. It featured workshops, free DJ lesson, and a set and performance from Nick Catchdubs of Fool’s Gold Records. We also have events at 837 coming up July 22nd and July 29th, check out our Twitter for more information.
