Scratch @ The Goldie Awards 2017
Last week, it seemed as if the entire DJ culture descended on Brooklyn Steel in East Williamsburg for the Goldie Awards — a DJ and beat battle put together by A-Trak and presented by Fool’s Gold Records, Noisey, THUMP, and TMWRK.
We were on-site as both spectators, fans, and sponsors of the event, along with the fine folks at Pioneer DJ, Native Instruments, Serato, Roland, Stokyo and BPM Supreme.
The 2,000 person venue was filled with attendees like DJ Puffy, TJ Mizell, Uniique, and many others that watched the 2.5 hour competition. Judging was handled by heavyweights of the culture, including Mannie Fresh, Diplo, DJ Craze, The Whooligan, MIJA, Just Blaze, Destructo and A-Trak himself.
In the end, Miles Medina and Holly emerged victorious – taking home the trophies for the DJ battle and beat battle, respectively. You can see Miles’ 1st round DJ set, which many feel was the deciding factor that pushed him to the forefront of the competition, in the video below.
